Who We Are UTC Hardwoods is a leading distributor of high quality American domestic hardwood lumber. We deal in Northern, Appalachian and Midwestern hardwoods, rough or planed, and available in standard or custom thicknesses, lengths, and widths. Our species include Ash, Basswood, Beech, Butternut, Cherry, Hard Maple, Soft Maple, Red Oak, White Oak, and Black Walnut. We also stock spalted beech and curly maple. UTC hardwoods is the successor company of a merger of Pomeroy Lumber and United Timber Company. Pomeroy Lumber was started by Paul Pomeroy in 1978 with the acquisition of a small sawmill in upstate New York. Over the next 30 years, Paul successfully grew his business into a multimillion dollar wholesale hardwood manufacturing business, producing over 10 million feet of domestic hardwoods. Its sister company, United Timber Company (UTC), provided the wholesale industry with hardwood veneers, specialty hardwood lumber, railroad ties, pallet lumber, pulp and paper products, wood chips and saw dust. UTC also provided forest management services through its forestry team, including a staff forester, and timber harvesting. Philosophically, United Timber was a strong adherent to best land management practices and environmental stewardship, recognizing from the onset that proper planning and forestry management techniques produce lasting value. A properly managed forest, including the harvesting of mature growth, increases browse and cover for wildlife, creates openings in the forest canopy to stimulate biodiversity, keeps erosion in check, creates opportunities for recreational activities such as hiking, hunting and horseback riding and helps to create healthy forests which produce oxygen and thereby contribute to reducing greenhouse gases. In 2006, Paul received an unsolicited offer to sell the manufacturing and forestry arm of the business. Paul agreed to sell the business, but being an entrepreneur at heart, he chose to move his family to Branson, MO where he began offering hardwood lumber to the Midwest through UTC hardwoods, Paul continues to operate under the same formula that made him successful over the past 30 years.
